Level detectors detect media at a predefined position looking at the installation position. They are mainly installed as full or empty detectors within the upper or lower part of a bin or container. This prevents the bins from overfilling or running empty. In addition
with a level sensor, this ends up in a redundant system which additionally increases plant safety. If a particular fill level is of particular interest, the sensors can even be used
as demand detectors.

EIP rotaries are a proven, affordable and long-lasting solution for detecting Point levels in bins, tanks, and silos.

Point Level Detection

There are different technologies for level detection, which have their advantages and drawbacks looking at the appliance. To opt for an appropriate application, numerous process conditions should be considered, which the sensor technology needs to deal
with.

For this reason, EIP (ENVIRO CONTROLS) offers a broad portfolio of various technologies like rotary paddle switches, vibration level switches and capacitive sensors. This permits an individual to individually address their requirements so as to always provide them with the simplest possible solution.

Point level detection is ideal for high and low level alarms, overfill prevention, pump protection, and pump control. It can also be used to simply indicate a full or empty state. EIP’s portfolio of point level measurement devices offers flexible installation options,
ensuring the right fit for your liquids or solids applications.

EIP has the right rotary for challenging applications. From its explosion-proof housing, to de- energized motor operation, a bi-directional, slip clutch, and a four-bearing drive shaft – the BMRX is a rugged workhorse built for efficiency and longevity.

What differentiates an EIP Rotary Paddle Switch from others?

EIP has different models for different missions. The BRMX rotary paddle bin level indicator provides reliable point level detection and measurement of dry bulk solids in bins, tanks, silos, hoppers, and material conveyors. Mounted on the highest or side of a bin, the BinMaster BMRX alerts operators when bins are full—normally through the utilization of a horn or light.

The BMRX features “de-energized” operation of the motor which shuts the motor down when material is present, saving energy costs and prolonging the motor life. It’s CE approved and is acceptable to be used in hazardous conditions when explosion proof
protection is needed–featuring Class I, Groups C and D, Class II E, F, and G listings.

As it is easy to handle, it operates stably for a long period of time. It is a best selling line for having gained customers confidence and expanded sales record in the market.

Principles of Operation:

High Level Control During Filling

The paddle continually rotates until material reaches it. Sensing resistance, the motor rotates an actuator arm activating a switch wired to an alarm or process equipment to stop overfilling.

Low Level Control When Emptying

When covered, the paddle is de-energized and not rotating. As material drops below the paddle, the actuator arm springs back, the motor re-energizes, and
also the paddle rotates, sending an alarm or setting out a process system.

Many Materials and Applications

Point level detection in powders and bulk solids with a bulk density of 2 pounds to over 100 pounds per cubic foot. Used in bins, silos, chutes, and conveyors storing or processing powders, pellets, and granular materials.

To prevent overflowing bins and dry runs in processing operations, a Rotary Paddle Switch is used for:

● Reliable point level detection for bulk solids including powders, pellets and granular materials
● Used in bins, silos, chutes and conveyors
● Material density from 2 lb./cu. ft. to over 100 lb./cu. ft.
● Feed, seed, grain, food, sand, gravel, concrete, aggregates, plastics, chemicals, coal and many other materials

A rotating paddle switch is a type of switch that is commonly used in industrial and commercial applications. It is a heavy-duty switch that can handle high currents and can be used in high-voltage applications. The switch is operated by a handle that is attached
to a paddle that is connected to the switch. The switch is usually mounted on a panel or a wall.

Rotary paddle type level switch is based on electromagnetic principle. The paddle switch works when an electric motor drives the shaft connected to the rotating paddle. The twin blades of the rotating paddle rotate freely when uncovered. The electric motor
is mounted on a sliding-fit rotating disc, which in-turn is connected to a spring.

Efficacy of Rotary Paddle Switch in prevention of bins congestion is as follows:

● De-energized Motor – Automatically goes into a resting state when the paddle is covered to extend motor life.
● Fail-Safe – Confident process control for immediate status notification and visual status notification for mechanical failure or loss of power (this feature is model dependent)
● Status Light – Solid for covered paddle, blinking for an uncovered turning paddle, and unlit for failed condition (this feature is model dependent)
● Time Delays – Set 5 to 25 second delays in the alarm relay for covered or uncovered conditions to reduce false positives (this feature is model dependent)
● Auto Sensing – No sensitivity setting or calibration required regardless of material density.
● Built-in Slip Clutch – Protects the gear assembly from damage due to over rotation.
● Hazardous Locations: Explosion Proof

Note: EIP’s Rotary Paddle Switches have been around for about years and are the foremost frequently used point level device for dry bulk solids. However, not
all rotaries are created equal. Their rotaries are designed with the foremost
advanced features, offer the widest form of accessories and configuration
options.
